Chosen's Board members all have their faith in Christ in common as well as a deep passion for Children. They are excited to see what God has in store for Chosen in the coming months and years and to see how lives will be impacted by the ministry!

 Jason Bowling

 Co-Founder and Executive Board President

 Jason graduated from Emmaus Bible College with a dual Bachelor's of Science degree in Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry. At Emmaus he was involved with the traveling group vocal ensemble, served as a Resident Assistant, was the student chair for the Youth Ministry major, and was heavily involved in many areas of leadership at his local church. Jason's non-profit organizational involvement has been vast. Youth Working for Positive Change, a youth-community volunteer organization that advocates for their community to better the conditions of the struggling areas of the city, and the Central Iowa Blues Society are organizations that he served with for many years. Jason's love for children led him to job experience with day care centers and youth camps. He has held various Customer Service and ministry-related positions.


Jason is very involved in his church, serving as the leader for the Jr. and Sr. High Youth Ministry as well as working alongside and mentoring the college-age students. He serves in many other areas of the church as needs arise.


Amalie Bowling

Amalie grew up in Christian Education having attended a Christian elementary and junior high years. During her teen years, she was blessed to have experienced several short-term mission trips to Reynosa, Mexico. She went on to earn dual B.S. degrees in Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry at Emmaus Bible College. There she was a Student Ambassador, choir member and yearbook Editor.


Because of her passion for children, she has held positions as a Nanny, Camp Counselor and Child Care Provider. Since 2014 Amalie works as a Claims Representative for the largest privately held Third Party Administrator where she has achieved three promotions. is the Children's Ministry Coordinator, co-leads the Youth Group and is involved with Women's Ministries. In addition to all of her service, Amalie enjoys crafting, knitting/crocheting, and family. She is an avid adoption and fostering advocate who believes that families come in all shapes and sizes. Amalie has been interviewed about her adoption and fostering experiences by the Waukesha Freeman, Waukesha Now, Trinity Broadcast News and other media platforms.


Amalie and Jason, who hope to adopt in the future, are actively fostering children from Milwaukee County and are very involved in the foster care and adoption communities. They co-founded Chosen to help as many children as possible have a safe and loving home. They both hope to work for Chosen full-time  in the future to advance its goals and mission.




 Karen Schlindwein

 Executive Director and Executive Board Member

 A 1985 graduate of Luther College (Decorah, Iowa), Karen earned a B.A. degree in     Management and began her insurance claims career as a Claim Adjuster for Federated Insurance. In 1987 she moved to Home Insurance (later REM and Tristar Risk Management) where she was promoted to various positions, starting a management path in 1995 and ultimately named Regional Claim Manager in 2000, overseeing multiple field operations and professionals. Her responsibilities included staff recruitment, development, and training, marketing, customer service, and claim quality control. Karen's staff maintained the highest quality control scores of the company for many years, leading to high client renewals and personal/team performance bonus awards. She remained in this position until her retirement in 2015.


Married to Tom for more than 30 years, they are the parents of adult children, Amalie and Joseph, through the miracle of adoption.  She has been involved with adoption support organizations for 25+ years.  As a child, her family cared for foster children where she experienced fostering from a unique perspective.  Her passion to help those facing infertility and/or adoption began in 1990 as a volunteer for Resolve.  She later co-led the Hope ministry at a local church for 8 years, which provided support and education to couples facing infertility and/or considering adoption and continues to be an active adoption advocate helping many through the process.


In 2015, she and Amalie co-authored "Dear Lois: Our Adoption Journey", following a reunion with Amalie's birthmother. She was named the Executive Director of Chosen, Inc. and joined their board in 2015. She is currently marketing "Dear Lois" and Chosen and is coordinating adoption-training and other media and speaking opportunities for Chosen. Karen had the incredible experience of being on three short-term mission trips to Mexico with her family. At her local church she is currently involved in Women's Ministries and is the Outreach Ministries Coordinator. She previously served on the Advisory Board for Orphans no More in recent years, was a Deacon at her local church for several years and has has been a long-time volunteer for Richard's Place (an HIV non-profit support organization), and now sits as their Board Secretary. Karen enjoys spending time with family, boating, traveling, scrapbooking and being a foster Grandma.


Lisa Doyle
Executive Board Vice President
Lisa Doyle retired as a Workers' Compensation insurance claims adjuster in 2015, having worked for the largest privately held Third Party Administrator in the country for several years. While there, she was promoted twice and was very successful in Customer Service, having achieved consistently high quality work product results. Prior to her insurance career, she worked in a leadership capacity as a Facilities Manager for a large local church.


She has been engaged in ministry, within her church, teaching in both children's and women's ministries since 2000. She is very dedicated and passionately driven regarding teaching The Word of God and has led many Bible studies, coordinated women's retreats, and been involved with various Biblical training.


Lisa is married to her husband, Michael, of more than 20 years. They have raised two grown sons, Nathanyel and Zachary, and are currently enjoying their two grandsons. She thoroughly enjoys the time she spends with her family. Lisa also enjoys photography, scrapbooking and traveling. Having been in the foster system for some of her teen years, Lisa has personally seen the highs and lows of the system. She desired to be a part of Chosen to be in a Gospel-centered mission to help to make changes in a new and refreshing way so that children in the system can have a safe and positive experience. Her experiences give Chosen a unique perspective into fostering.


Thomas Schlindwein

Executive Board Treasurer

After earning a B.A. degree in Accounting from Luther College (Decorah, Iowa) in 1985, Thomas "Tom" began his 30+ year business career initially in Minneapolis, MN and, since 1994, in Milwaukee, WI. Tom has worked for various industries (i.e. contracting, staffing, bartering, printing) and has extensive accounting/finance, sales, and management/leadership experience. He is currently Co-Owner and Vice President of The Edge Contracting LLC. In the past, he has worked for large well-known companies (i.e. Glass Doctor, K-Tel International) as well as small family owned companies. Having owned two small businesses during his career, Tom has developed an extensive network of well-connected professionals. This exposure has benefited his ability to help non-profits including: Waukesha Bible Church (Board of Deacon Co-Chair and Finance Committee member), Richard's Place (Board member) and Chosen, Inc. (Board member).


Married to Karen for more than 30 years, Tom and Karen have two children, Amalie and Joseph.  Tom has been actively involved with their local church and Richard's Place. His experience on several short-term Mexico mission trips with his family grew his passion for the Gospel. Tom is a "jack of all trades" and has a talent for wood working and home decorating. In his spare time he enjoys his family, boating, traveling and being a foster Grandpa.


Christina Jensen

Executive Board Member

Christina earned her Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Madison Area Technical College in 1992. She went on to receive her B.S. degree in Biology from UW-Milwaukee in 1996. While working as a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Kindred Hospital in Milwaukee she earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Excelsior College in Albany, NY. She went on to earn her Master of Science degree from Marquette University College of Nursing (Milwaukee, WI) in 2008 and has worked as an Adult Nurse Practitioner for Milwaukee Internal Medical Associates and ProHealth Care and recently accepted a position at Froedtert Hospital.


Recently married to Brian, they live in Big Bend, WI and have four sons: Hunter, Tyler, Nathan and Noah. She enjoys spending time with her family and pets, traveling, reading, exercising and volunteering at her church. She is also an avid Green Bay Packers' fan. Christina has a deep love and passion for children. She has faithfully served in a leadership capacity in the Awana program of her local church and especially loves her role as a nursery volunteer. She is often seen holding the babies of her church! She is excited to be on Chosen's Board so that all children will have a safe and loving home!


Laura Lau

Advisory Board Member

Laura received her B.S. degree in Finance from The Pennsylvania State University and a Juris Doctor degree from Marquette University Law School. Laura was appointed to the judicial position of Circuit Court Commissioner for Waukesha County in 2001 and presides over family, criminal, probate, juvenile and civil matters for the county. Prior to joining the judiciary, she was in private practice specializing in the area of family law. Laura is the co-Author of "Family Law Casenotes and Quotes" a publication of the State Bar of Wisconsin. She is a frequent lecturer at statewide seminars as well as for local organizations.


In the community, she also serves on the Board for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) - Waukesha. She has previously served on boards for The Women's Center, Inc. and Pro Health Care Visiting Nurse Association and Rolland Nelson Memorial Hospice. She was also a class facilitator at Waukesha County Technical College for 10 years and served on an advisory committee for the Waukesha Catholic School System. Laura welcomes the opportunity to participate in Chosen, which she believes can offer positive solutions for issues facing many members of the Waukesha community. Through her contacts in the legal system, she has seen the trauma many families experience and the long lasting effects on children. Her belief is that the Christ-centered mission of Chosen can have positive influence on these vulnerable members of our community. Laura's family shares her passion for service to the community.


Her daughter, Andrea, is an attorney in Waukesha and serves for and volunteers with several local non-profit agencies. Her son, Ryan, is a medical student at The Medical College of Wisconsin and continues to participate in vocal worship at his church. The youngest member of their family, Rebekah, is the Volunteer Coordinator for The Women's Center, Inc., in Waukesha and is active in many community initiatives.
